Has anyone ever tried to air layer for fast, reliable Propagation? It seems to me that if it did work it would be a great way to go. I am about to try it on some B. oldhami, but I wanted to see if anyone has had any luck. Make it a great day!

Alright, it took me a bit to get it done, but I have layered six different cultivars. D. Minor Ameonus, Oldhami Hirosi, parkers hawaiian Giant, B. Lako, B. Textiles 'Kanapaha, and B. Ventricoas 'Buddah Belly'. I did not score the cambium as I did not think it was necessary. I'll keep ya'll posted.

That is clever....have you had good results with that method? A simple air layer cup w/o scarring the cambium has given me zero results. 0 for 8... My next attempt will be with heavy scarring, and I'll be hooking them up soon. I bet that crushing the cane to bend it ;like you did will inspire the plant to root at those nodes. just a guess though.

first time right in buckets. bending the culm down and bury it has yielded about 50 percent.
i think kept more consistently moist will give better results. when i try regular air layering squirrels tear them apart.
